Comparison of grandparents' answers: When they were teenagers, our grandparents usually spent their spare time doing sports (boxing, walking for example). They also helped their parents with the household chores to get some pocket money. And they spent this money on candy and cinema tickets.
Comparison of parents' answers: Similarities : -When they were teenagers, parents ususally had to help with the housework. - They have the same point of view on how adolescents of today spend their time and spend their time too with their family.
Differences : - They didn't spend their time doing the same thing, Christa did not watch TV or listento musiclike sophie during her free time she had to help her parents. Although my mother's education was strict, Christa could not spend her free time with her friends because after the education of young people was much stricter than that of my mother and mine. -We noticed that depending on the families, parents used their spare time in a different way. For example, some parents prefered reading while others prefered playing football. Some parents had to go straight home after school whereas other parents could hang out with friends. Some lived in big cities and could do many different activities while others lived in small towns and had fewer options.
Comparison of grandparents' answers with parents' answers:
There are similarities and differences in the way our grandparents and our parents spent their spare time. Similarities : they had to help their parents with the house chores so they didn’t have a lot of spare time. Differences : our parents had a little more spare time because their parents were not so demanding with them. And they had more pocket money than their parents.
PRESENT SITUATION OF TEENAGERS The lifestyle of today’s teenagers is completely different from that of previous generations because today we spend our free time watching tv, listening to music , chatting and calling our friends, on social networks. We also spend our time with our family but not as much as in the generations of our parents and grandparents. We have more opportunity to go out with our friends, even if we spend most of our time practicing sports that become our passion over time.
CONCLUSION Hence, we can conclude that as the years go by, there is progress in technology that changes the way of life and the way young people spend their time. For example in the generation of our grandparents all that revolves around the internet, mobile phones, social networks etc did not exist. So our way of spending our time changes from generation to generation.
Comparison with Jasubden M.L. school (see photo and video of our VC below) In both countries, students prefer playing to reading. Another similarity is that young people spend most of their spare time using social media, surfing the net, listening to music. In both cases, we have more spare time than the previous generations. We have similar occupations (social networks, seeing friends) but Indian students said they liked cooking and we said we liked eating!
Reflection:
What went well? We worked well together and we were able to conduct the interviews conveniently. We enjoyed the videoconference with India. It was very interesting to exchange views on our topic with Indian students.
What didn't go well? We were not able to communicate with the students of India on Whatsapp. Also, some of us don’t have whatsapp on their phones. We found it difficult to meet the deadlines as it took us a long time to write the research report and our school calendar did not leave us enough time after the Christmas break to complete our ejournal.
What we could have done differently: We should have written the ‘comparison and conclusion’ part earlier. We could have added photos of our parents and grandparents. What we learnt about our topic: We learnt a lot about what our parents and parents did in their free time. And we realised it was very different from what we do in our spare time. Technologies play a much larger role in our lives than they did in the past.
